This month, a couple of us from the Luggie Mobility Scooters office are doing a sponsored walk in aid of Christie’s. We are taking part on behalf of a friend of a colleague who has terminal cancer. She wants to raise money for her children so that they will have the house when she passes away.
The walk is taking place on 24th November and is from The Gardeners Pub in Leigh, to the new Christie building in Wigan and back. We are also going to be loaning a mobility scooter to Karen who wants to take part and complete some of it alongside us.

Karen Ainscough is a single Mum with 3 children aged 19, 15 and 2. At 41, she has spent the last 16 months fighting bowel cancer. Unfortunately, this has now spread to behind her eye and her forehead, which is extremely rare. There are no guarantees about the outcome and Karen’s future, so she has started fundraising to ensure her children are provided for if the worst were to happen.
They have all enjoyed a summer together making memories as a family, but unfortunately, memories won’t provide for her children when Karen is no longer able to do so.
This is obviously one of the toughest challenges Karen has had to face, not least because she is worrying about her children’s futures as well as her own. Here at Luggie, we wanted to take part in the walk as cancer will affect everyone at some point, whether it’s directly, through a relative or a friend of a friend.
